When you are starting a small business you should have a good idea of your market and the audience you want to reach. If you want to just stay in your local area you may not need to invest so much money in advertising. Putting up flyers in the neighborhood could be enough. Another way to build your small business is by word of mouth. People often bypass how important word travels in the community.

If you don’t have the funds it takes to run your business you can apply for a small business loan to assist in your start up expenses. You can also save money by employing your family to work with you.  If they are interested in getting into a new field you may be able to persuade them to help.  There are a lot of small business that are family run so talking with the people closest to you is a good place to start.  They may also want to invest in your company so you don’t have to apply for a large loan.

If you can start with a small idea and then build on it you can increase your business significantly.  Try to use equipment or office supplies that you have at home to start your business so you won’t have to spend so much money on new supplies.  When you are making a return back on your product you can always upgrade to newer equipment.  The most important thing to do when you are a small business is to use your resources.  You don’t ever want to spend any extra money that you don’t have to.
