When you look into starting a record store business you first need to ask around and look at your competition.  Find out about wholesalers in the record business that you can work with you to obtain the best possible price. Once you have an idea of how much you will need to invest you can start drawing up your business plan.

If you have been saving for your record business then you should have some money put aside to put down on your property.  You will need to decide if you want to lease or buy the property that your business is on. If you don’t have a lot of funds you may want to lease your space initially and then work on buying another location later on. The best thing to do is to take it slow.

Choosing a good location is always important.  If you are looking around for your start up location make sure that you are close to a shopping plaza or a youthful area. You should appeal to a wide range of customers, so try to open your business in a diverse neighborhood. Try to survey what your customers would like to have in the store so you always have merchandise that is in demand. You don’t want to miss out on a large amount of customers because you are always out of stock of things.  When hiring employees make sure that they have good customer service and that they have an interest in music.  Employees who appeal to your customers can help in the sale of your merchandise.
