Starting an investigation business can be very rewarding.  The first thing to consider however is your criminal record. In order to start an investigation business you will need a clean criminal record. This can be obtained easily at a low cost to you.  After you have obtained a background check you can work on checking for the requirements for an investigation business in your area.  Every state has different qualifications.  In most cases you will need a P.I. license in order to legitimize yourself as a private investigator.

Along with obtaining a P.I. license you will also need to take some courses in investigation so you can show your potential customers that you are qualified and trained for the job.  Your clients may also want to know about your previous career experience.  In most cases you can make an easy transition from any career in law enforcement to an independent business such as investigation. It can be a nice switch for anyone who wants to get away from a hectic work schedule.

When you have an investigation business you can choose your hours and customers.  You don’t have to take on any job you are uncomfortable with and you are in full control. Having experience in the legal field can also help you to understand your boundaries.  You want to make sure that you are following everything by the book so you can protect you and your company.  That’s why it’s helpful to have a background in law enforcement. Cover all your bases so that you can provide the very best to your customers.
