When I taught English at Cornell University, one of my special ed students hobbled up to me in my office and mumbled, “Mr. Daltrey? What is the best home based business opportunity?” I chuckled a bit, patted the little tyke on the head, and tossed him a cat biscuit. I didn’t really have to time to answer the guy, and it’s easy to distract people with free food. I continued with the real task at hand: the completion of my time machine.

After years of working off of blueprints I drew in my sleep, I was finally able to develop a working prototype of what would soon become the standard gov’t-issue time machine. In the year 2056, the Department of Time Travel became the first cross-dimensional Government Office, ruled equally by the citizens of Earth and the Time Beings of Dimension 7, the Universe’s only dimension devoid of any matter. Instead, all beings in that dimension were merely sentient wormholes of time.

But techno-babble like that couldn’t possibly be understood by a simple 21st century human. By today’s standards, a high-school graduate from 2005 would score lower on today’s standardized tests than the five-year olds of our time. But not all five-year-olds in the year 2111 test that well. It’s mostly just the ones whose parents opted for genetic neuro-enhancements while still gestating in the laboratory.

Those hyper-neuro babies would definitely know what is the best home based business opportunity. Unfortunately, the Solar Government’s Department of Genetics has a limit on the IIP (infant intelligence potential) for breeders in the Milky Way Galaxy, so the hyper-neuros are few and far between.
