Business Directory
Most of us are familiar with some type of Business Directory, the most common being the old fashioned Yellow Pages. Today there are a myriad of online Business Directories, including the online Yellow Pages (which offers additional advantages over the offline version).
One major advantage to the online directories is that you can look up businesses in locations that are outside of the service area that the printed version offers. Another, is that you can easily get a map location for that business. Case in point: suppose you travel a fair distance between home and work, or will be traveling to a different city, you can easily find a business at your destination and print out a map with contact information. Finally, you can usually get a link to that business directly from one of these directories and contact that business online. So even if you don’t know a businesses’ name, you can search by category and by geographical area quite easily.
Unlike a web search, business directory listings are sourced from the phone companies that have been consolidated over the years. Among the largest are AT & T and Verizon and R.H. Donnelly. For a different experience you can try www.pdcpages.com or www.dexknows.com. Advertising in business directories are different than online sponsored links, with some requiring a yearly commitment, so check this out before you commit.
There are also ‘independent’ or local directories under various names. Many publishers are also creating niche or specialty types of Business Directories for different industry sectors. As one can expect, there are business directories for just about every country.
