The Better Business Bureau of Houston, Texas is a local division of the national Better Business Bureau organization that is non-profit and operates all of the United States and Canada.  The aim of the Better Business Bureau in Houston and all over the country is to set guidelines for ethical business practices and enforce these among businesses by allowing membership to those businesses that promote and follow the same business guidelines that the BBB deems ethical.

The BBB then allows consumers to search for businesses and research whether businesses are deemed reliable and ethical based on their membership in the BBB.  The Better Business Bureau also gives consumers information about scams that develop and provide mediation for consumers and businesses when needed.

The Better Business Bureau of Greater Houston and South Texas is quite large and represents 18 counties including Austin, Brazoria, Brooks, Cameron, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Kenedy, Matagorda, Montgomery, Starr, Waller, Wharton, Willacy and Zapata.  These 18 counties are represented by the current president of the Greater Houston area BBB, Dan Parsons.  This division of the Texas BBB and the United States BBB operates in much the same way as the other Better Business Bureaus and serves the same functions.

The BBB of Houston specializes in offering membership to businesses in the area that observe the ethical business standards set forth by the non-profit umbrella organization of the Better Business Bureau.  The Greater Houston area BBB is probably the most reliable source for people in the Houston, Texas area who are searching for information on reliable local and chain businesses.
